This article is as beautiful as it is overstated, as well-done as it is ultimately wrong. It makes good points about good examples of White House moves on race, and concludes that the White House’s biggest fear and weakness is the charge of being biased or unfair on racial matters.
Much bigger weaknesses include the debt, the wars, the economy and and government gridlock. Bigger fears include terrorism, nuclear war or Rush Limbaugh winning in 2012.
We should remember Obama’s strong election numbers with white voters, and his race speech about Rev. Wright. His racial record has been somewhat mixed, certainly not always bad, certainly not an Achilles’ heel. Any racial missteps have been pretty small. The stupid beer meeting fixed the professor-cop thing, and this Sherrod thing won’t last, if in part because of other bad news for Obama.
